Desolate Mountain Teaser
By evening, I had another camp set up four miles up the river, and I was eating fresh fish by the fire. I still wasn't comfortable. I didn't know if it would be safer to use my tent or my hammock. I finally decided to go into my tent a little earlier tonight. If it was the bigfoot, it seemed unsure while I was inside the tent. So far, it had only walked around it throwing small rocks. I was going to go into the tent and sit for a while with my gun ready. If nothing happened, I would go back outside and sit by a tree watching. I could always sleep after the sun came up if I needed to. I knew if I stuck to this pattern long it would make my progress slow down to a crawl. But right now, I didn't have much choice. After I had eaten, I tied up my bag, kicked out my fire and went into the tent. Sitting there in the dark I wished I had left the fire burning.
It wasn't long before I heard a knock. It was not far from me, and it was quickly answered from the other direction by two quick knocks. They were coming.
I sat there with my nerves completely raw and all of my senses heightened. I was barely breathing and listening for the smallest sound that would let me know they were out there. I felt something lightly touch my shoulder. A sudden jolt of adrenaline shot through my veins as I turned my head to see a massive hand pushing down the top of my tent! I was trying my best not to let the smallest bit of air escape my lungs as that was the only way to control my scream.
